Rapper dancers traditionally had a Tommy who, dressed up in smart tail coat, would sing
a calling on song. In the same tradition Ednie Wilson, one of the founders of Short
Circuit, has composed some calling on songs for Short Circuit. On special occasions
she will compose a new calling on song.

Calling on song No 1
Good people give ear to my story
We haven't just come here by chance
We've come to astound and impress you
With our prize winning rapper sword dance
We looked very hard for hobby
We've tried rock and roll, drugs and sex
Then a very nice man gave us rappers
And this is just what happened next

Calling on song No 2 - The "Rap"
Ladies and Gents
I'll take a minute of your time
We offer entertainment
in a style that's fine
We're five alive
Electrifying
And when we dance
We bend steel for a living
You can see us twist
You can see us turn
We push it to the limit
We go for the burn
We take - hot metal
Five bodies oscillating
We aim to impress you
With this undertaking
Now you know
What we're going to do
We're going to
Rap-per dance for you
No bunny hop
No jig, no jive
This is how we
Keep tradition alive

Calling on song No 3
Step up now, Sister, step up, advance,
For we are proud and skilled in dance,
It is our aim, when all said and done,
To entertain you, and have some fun.
We are five maids of dancing fame,
Ready and willing to play this game
All of one mind and of one accord,
To show you how we handle sword.

Calling on song No 4
Five in black finery, holding in energy
Poised on the edge, all is not what it seems
Then weave with alacrity, forms of complexity
Bodies and swords, a pentangle of dreams
We have the will, we have the skill
To win or to lose, we all take our chance
This is the way, this the day
We are the ones who are called to the dance

Calling on
song No 5
Ladies and Gentlemen
we've come to tell our story
It isn't sad or very long, it won't detain or bore you
With good sprung steel
and agility we aim to entertain you
With speed and grace, we will weave some figures to astound you
We slide five lithesome
bodies through complex chains of reeling
And fleet of foot through twists and turns we'll move in forms appealing
And if we're good and if
we charm, then share our joy and mirth
And raise a glass and raise a cheer as measure of our worth
Dancers all poised ready
and bid our champion play!
And you mark well all those here now who dance upon this day
And you mark well all those here now who dance upon this day

Special Song for Jean's
50th (with actions)
Sisters, Sisters, we are five of her
devoted sisters (head R, head L, step forward / back)
We follow her because we are her dancing crew (Flanaghan and Allan, hands on
shoulder in front)
She shouts at us and we "just do"! (face front, step R, step L, salute)
Caring, sharing, every little thing that
she is wearing (arms stretch L, arms stretch R, circle arms and point at J)
When we leave our vital bits of kit at home (R hand cover boobs, L hand cover
other bits)
Jean lets us take her spares on loan (produce underwear and fling into
audience)
All kinds of weather we dance together
(arm R in pairs)
In wind, and rain and sun (arm L in pairs)
All different faces, but in tight place (cup face, fingers pointing down)
We turn and we follow "one" (turn and point at J)
If you've seen us, you will know that not a
team can beat us (L hand on shoulder in front, swagger walk and turn)
Many men have tried to come in first, but no-one can (shake finger)
Lord make us swifter to follow the lead of our sister (hands in prayer, 2
kneel, 3 stand)
And we love the sister who will always be our number one. (make tableau with
Jean in middle)
